This was taken on my last day in the Grand Canyon National Park where I had been working for the past month. The entire day had been severely overcast with periods of heavy rain. I had traveled the park hoping for a break in the weather, and was starting to get discouraged. As sunset approached, I noticed through the grayness a small line of clear sky on the distant western horizon. Hoping that the opening would last until the sun could drop below the clouds, I waited in the rain. Fortunately my patience paid off, and the sun offered a magnificent display of golden haze for about 15 minutes. A truly fitting end to my summer in the canyon.
