This pastoral scene in Northern California is beautiful anytime but it really comes alive during the winter months when you get patchy low fog filling the fields and shallow valleys. It's one of my favorite locations.
A typical outing usually involves arriving while it's still dark. As sunrise gets closer the landscape unfolds out of darkness, offering numerous horizontal and vertical composition options. Shooting is fairly straightforward but conditions can change quickly and you have to constantly adjust exposure to match the rising sun. This shot was captured at f11 for 15 seconds with help from a reverse grad filter.
