Ballerina, Lakeland, Florida, USA by Agnish Dey

During the breeding season, the green herons perform courtship rituals which include exaggerated wing flap and loud calling. Every year, I observe green herons in the breeding season with great interest. On this day, I found this very active green heron performing all the courtship rituals in nice light. So I positioned myself to click a few images. Then suddenly I observed something that I have never witnessed before - this beautiful bird started jumping up and down with exaggerated wing flaps accompanied by crossed legs, she exactly looked like a graceful ballerina to me. This behavior continued for a few minutes, and then she never did that again . This image is taken in Circle Bar Reserve in Lakeland, Florida - it is a fantastic place for birding.
