Big Eddy Sunday, Oregon, USA by Steve J Giardini

I drove the snow packed road down to the Deschutes River near Big Eddy. This is a favorite final roller coaster rapids for summer rafting tours. The river was swollen from the spring snow melt and recent rains. Shoreline rocks were thick with orange organic matter and rocks along the river were covered with yellow-green moss.

My objective was to capture and highlight the orange, yellow and green moss-like plants attached to the rocks. I wanted these colors to contrast the otherwise gray, foggy sky and almost white smooth water. The light was coming diagonally left to right and a bit from behind. This was perfect to highlight the moss and other rock cover.
