Lone Tree of Hallickshole Hill, New Forest, England by Graham Norton

It was 4.30am as I arrived in the car park after the hour an half drive from home and it was still pitch black. The 40 minute walk was punctuated with the roar of a Red Deer stag and I arrived 40 mins before sunrise with the high hopes of some mist.

From a recce the day before I knew what compositions I wanted, so it was a case of waiting for the light – the promised mist never really materialised but at least the heather still displayed lovely colours.
