White Lion by India Burchell

The white lion is derived from the South African Lion through mutation in the gene which gives their coat a white colour. They are now listed as Endangered Species.

Lions live in prides, with the male as the head. It is his job to protect the females as well as any cubs. Lions can mark their territory by spreading their scent, rubbing against any bushes or trees, just as the male lion is doing in the photograph.
