Mer De Glace, France by Erik Haake

I shot this before Sunrise on the third day of the Alps trip with Simon Roppel above Chamonix in the area of France bordering Switzerland. This is another stunning location in series of stunning locations that we visited on this trip. Even though it was one of the few actually popular viewpoints we visited, we were still the only photographers there.

This was one of the most difficult shoots I’ve ever done and frankly I’m amazed I came out with anything decent. We got up around 2:30 AM and hiked up a ridge in the dark trying to find compositions. I was hoping to shoot the stars this morning but the moon was out in force and so ruled out that plan. After many failed images do to lots of wind shaking the foreground flowers, I managed doing a little 3 shot pano just as the sun was about to show itself.
