Huge Swell at Te Awaiti, New Zealand by Mary Livingston

As the day brightened, the sea grew and grew before my eyes. The waves were roaring with magnificent splendour, their white manes streaming high as they surged towards land. I was completely captivated and thrilled to be there, in spite of the cold. How could I think straight about composition, depth of field and all those things when I was in the thrall? I did my best to think, and could not have had a better start to my birthday! So good to be alive.

Camera Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5
Lens Leica DG 100-400/F4.0-6.3)
Aperture f11.0
S/S 1/1000
ISO 200
Additional Notes I started with a tripod but found I needed more flexibility than I could muster with it. I abandoned the tripod and instead would settle on a set of waves and follow them in until the shot looked right.

Hey landscape lovers! I live on top of the world DownUnder in New Zealand, a magical archipelago in the South Pacific with scenery to die for! I am an amateur photographer and work as a marine scientist. My home town is Wellington and I never get sick of trying to capture its changeable moods and weather...every day is so different. I also love to see other parts of my country, and of course, visit yours when I get the chance! I am looking forward to seeing your images and sharing some of mine :)
