f11news is brought to you by Landscape Photography Magazine & Wild Planet Photo Magazine

Mount Tamalpais, Marin County, California, USA by David Safanda

This shot was taken at a popular roadside spot that gives you a wonderful view of coastal fog flowing across the coastal hills of Marin County California. Being a popular spot, it's difficult to find a composition that hasn't already been copied dozens of times by other photographers.

For the most part it is very simple photography. Switch to f11, point a long lens at the scene below you and wait for light and fog to do their magic. I can't help but ask myself why I'm shooting the same spot once again. However, there's something about the way that low fog transforms a landscape. It's unpredictable and each evening gives you slightly different conditions that get amplified by the mysterious flow of fog. Every visit makes you feel more knowledgeable of the local environment and yet there's seems to always be some unexpected detail that you've never seen before. It will keep me coming back again and again.
